What does a labor doula do?
A doula is a trusted companion on the remarkable journey of childbirth, providing invaluable support and guidance at a time filled with emotions and decisions. Imagine having someone by your side who is not only knowledgeable about the birthing process but also deeply attuned to your needs and desires. That is what a doula does! A doula offers continuous physical, emotional, and informational support, helping to create a calming environment and empowering you to advocate for yourself.
From prenatal education to postnatal care, a doula is there to reassure you, answer your questions, and help you navigate the sometimes overwhelming landscape of labor and delivery. They can assist with breathing techniques, comfort measures, and relaxation strategies, making your experience more positive and fulfilling.
Having a doula means you don’t have to face this life-changing event alone; you have an ally who believes in your strength and supports your choices. With their nurturing presence, you can focus on what truly matters—welcoming your new baby into the world with confidence and joy.
How does a labor doula differ from a midwife?
Your doula is not a medical provider. You will still see your OBGYN popping in and out checking on you while your doula remains with you. Throughout the labor and delivery you have our complete dedication and attention to your needs and the needs of your partner if you have one!
Can a labor doula help with a hospital birth?
Absolutely! Not only can a doula help, but having a doula at your birth reduces the likelihood of interventions by at least 40% Whether you want an epidural, unmedicated birth, or somewhere in between, your doula can help!
